The view from up behind the hut at dawn, looking down on Lake Tekapo and the foothills.

  • Ski Touring Ski Touring Elke into the Sun

Elke walking towards the rising sun. I was experimenting with monochrome effects.
    Details: Canon 350d, EF-S 17-85mm IS, 1/2500, f/9.0, 100 ISO, hand held.
  • Ski Touring Ski Touring Morning Ascent above Lake Tekapo

Aiden, Elke and Jo heading up from the hut. Lake Tekapo is always amazing in the early morning light.
    Details: Canon 350d, EF-S 17-85mm IS, 1/100, f/9.0, 100 ISO, hand held.
  • Ski Touring Ski Touring Elke on Snake Ridge

Elke heading up a wind-swept Snake Ridge. One of my favourite photos, mainly because it came out just as I had planned. I love the textures and the spindrift.
    Details: Canon 350d, EF 70-200mm f/4, 1/4000, f/5.6, 100 ISO, hand held.
  • Ski Touring Ski Touring Morning Refreshment Stop

Still early in the morning, the overcast conditions made for intesting effects.
    Details: Canon 350d, EF-S 17-85mm IS, 1/500, f/9.0, 100 ISO, hand held.

Ski Touring
Two Thumb Range

July 2006, Elke organised an Otago University Tramping Club (OUTC) trip up to Rex Simpson Hut in the Two Thumb Range to do a little ski touring and snowshoeing.

A large group of 10 headed up, I got the job of carrying in a new 30kg battery for the solar-powered lighting system (what fun!).

We spent the first day walking in to the hut and doing some ski runs on the hill behind it in the afternoon. The following day we left the hut early to head up Snake Ridge towards Mt Hope.

We returned to the hut via Camp Stream Valley to get our packs before heading back to the cars.
